What the register holds
Article 3(2) of the Wki lists what the register contains: the registration date and registration mark; the names the collector uses; its name, office address, telephone number and other contact details; the names of its bestuurders; changes; administrative sanctions, suspensions and deletions, each flagged while the decision is not yet final; and a lapsed registration. The Minister keeps the register (Article 3(3)) and Justis runs it. The Justis register showed 277 active entries as at 22 September 2026, each with company name, registration number, registration date and address.
Why a creditor checks it
Registration decides what a creditor can recover. Since 1 October 2026, Article 18 has meant that a debtor does not have to pay a collector that is not registered or whose registration is suspended. No collection costs are owed for that collector's work, and none for the work of a later, registered collector on the same claim. Interest does not run from the unregistered collector's written demand onwards. A check at the moment of instruction is not enough on its own, because a registration can be suspended or struck off later.
How a registration ends
A registration lapses when the annual supervision fee is not paid on time (Article 3(6)); that fee is €1,800 for a sole trader and €7,400 for any other collector (Besluit kwaliteit incassodienstverlening, Article 8.1). The Minister strikes a registration off on request, on death, when the application data turn out to be materially wrong (Article 10), or for a serious breach of Articles 11 to 13 (Article 17). A suspended registration does not count as interrupted; a struck-off or lapsed one does (Besluit, Article 7.2).
